BOTOX®and Dysport®

Botox Dysport Before & After pic 1BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines, mainly between the brows and on the forehead.

What causes frown lines between the brows?

The lines that appear between your brows actually result from facial muscle contractions (facial expression) through the passage of time. As we age, skin becomes less elastic, while repeated muscle contractions restrict the growth of elastin in those areas, resulting in frown lines between the brows (glabellar lines) and the vertical lines through the forehead.

Not only does this treatment make you look younger, but many people have noticed they look more relaxed and approachable.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein that relaxes muscles by blocking nerve impulses. With a few tiny injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks the release of acetylcholine, the chemical that causes muscles to contract. With less movement, the skin surface naturally fills in through natural skin cell growth, smoothing out the deep troughs allowing the lines to fade.

Botox Dysport Before & After pic 2Botox® smoothes, flattens and relaxes:

  • Horizontal creases on the forehead
  • Vertical creases between the eyes; known as the elevens (11s) - (the glabella area)
  • Wrinkles on the temple side of the eyes, the "crow's feet"
  • Wrinkles on the sides of the nose, "bunny lines"
  • Wrinkles on the upper lip, pursed lips
  • Vertical cords on the neck

What can I expect from a BOTOX® cosmetic procedure?

A quick and simple 10-minute process consisting of a few tiny injections where results are typically seen in days and continue to improve during the first two weeks after the treatment.

No anesthesia is required, because the needles are so small, but we may gently numb the area with a cold pack prior to injecting. You may experience very minimal and brief discomfort, even for people with strong aversions to needles.

There can be slight temporary bruising at the injection site, which can be easily covered with makeup. Depending on the individual and the dosage, the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic commonly lasts from 3.5 to 4 months, with a few people who claim a little over 6 months. Results may vary. That's a good amount of time for these dynamic lines to get a nice filling effect.

Botox® can also be used in a variety of medical conditions, including treatment of migraine and tension headache, chronic muscular pain, abnormal facial movements, tremors, and excessive sweating of the palms, underarms and soles of the feet.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers Before & After pic 1Dermal fillers, such as Restylane®, Juvederm, Perlane® and Radiesse® are safe non-allergenic substances that are injected just below the surface of the skin to fill in lines, wrinkles, and scars. These are referred to as "Volumizers".

Fillers can also increase the fullness of lips and lift the downward slant of the corners of lips. The most common areas treated are the smile lines around the nose and mouth (know as the nasal labial fold), fine lines above the mouth (smoker’s lines), and the marianettes (the line from the corners of the mouth towards the chin.

Because of dermal filler’s safe ingredients, they require no pre-testing, but it’s a good idea to avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E prior to treatment because these may increase the likelyhood of light bleeding and bruising at the injection site.

If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that insertion of the needle could exacerbate another occurrence. So always check with the nurse before we proceed.

Do the injections hurt?
An ultra-fine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort, injects dermal fillers. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous. To optimize your comfort, we may want to anesthetize the treatment area.

Still, a lot of us don't like the idea of needles and feel more sensation than others, for this reason they have just introduced the "Comfort Fillers" that include lidocaine to relieve some the the feeling of discomfort that some of us experience. We also like to use a lidocain topical before doing dermal fillers so that we have numbing both on the surface and internally (as is introduced by the actual filler with lidocaine).

These new fillers are named as follows: Restylane-L, Perlan (the "L" standing for "Lidocaine"), Juverderm Ultra-XC and Juvederm Ultra Plus-XC (the "XC" standing for "Extra Comfort").

Radiesse has been traditionally mixed with lidocaine before injection, with great results.

Dermal Fillers Before & After pic 2Any pre- or post-treatment guidelines?

We provide guidelines for before and after your treatment.

How are dermal fillers different from Botox® Cosmetic?

Restylane®, Juvederm Ultra Plus and Perlane® are cosmetic fillers. In contrast, Botox® is a substance that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes underlying muscle. Many patients opt for “combination” treatments, as they each have their benefits in dealing with different wrinkles – sometimes referred to as the “liquid face lift”.

Laser Hair Removal

Until recently, removing hair was uncomfortable, inconvenient, expensive and time-consuming. With the exception of electrolysis, which can be expensive and painful, other methods are temporary at best.

Lumenis Lightsheer Laser Hair Removal Before & After pic 1Today, with wonderful advances in laser technology, unwanted hair is being removed effectively safely, and affordably. Laser Hair Removal is highly effective in permanently reducing unwanted hair. It works on just about any treatment area of the body where hair removal is desired: underarms, face, neck, legs, shoulders, back, bikini line, you name it.

This technology has introduced men, like never before, into the realm of hair removal. Freeing men from excessive body hair, like ears, back, neck, even men’s bikini!

You may be shocked at the statistical trend of people who are opting for permanent hair removal in the bikini area and underarms. As one of our nurses says, "bikini hair is quickly becoming a thing of the past".

How is permanent hair removal achieved?

With LightSheer, once a hair follicle has been “disabled”, it can no longer produce hair.

The LightSheer system is the recognized “gold standard” in hair removal technology. Designed and manufactured by Lumenis, the leading and most respected name in aesthetic laser technology, the LightSheer can disable dozens of hair follicles in less than one second, and promises long-lasting results for almost all skin types.

Lumenis Lightsheer Laser Hair Removal Before & After pic 2The LightSheer provides a non-invasive treatment specifically designed to eliminate undesired hair from all parts of the body. The laser effectively disables hair follicles, thus impairing their growth. LightSheer can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, and back, as well as sensitive areas like the chest, and bikini area.

Does skin color make a difference?

The more contrast between the hair and the skin the more power can be used and the fewer treatments required. Light skin with dark hair can take as little as 4 treatments and be very effective, where dark skin may require from 6 to 12 depending on how dark the skin is.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?

After your treatment, the area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities immediately. The use of sunscreen (SPF) is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.

IPL Intense Pulsed Light Technology

Lumenis Photofacial IPL pic 1Remarkable new Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), using the Lume One by Lumenis, improves the appearance of photo-aged skin on the face and body with minimal to no down time. IPL can remove broken capillaries; age spots, and stimulates collagen creating smoother and brighter looking skin. A fresh youthful glow results, taking years off your appearance!

The signs of aging and sun damage are typically most visible on a person’s face, hands and chest.

How is Photorejuvenation performed?

A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated. Goggles are worn to protect your eyes from the bright light. Treatment parameters are selected to achieve desired results based on your skin color and amount of correction needed. The smooth glass surface of the IPL hand piece is gently applied to your skin while pulses of light are emitted. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band. Treatments generally take about thirty minutes.

Lumenis Fotofacial IPL pic 2For more sensitive area and skin types a topical anesthetic is used.

Why are multiple treatments necessary?

Depending on the condition or conditions you are treating, and the severity of the individual condition, a series of three to five treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk – and, it preserves the wonderful “no downtime” feature that people appreciate so much.

Chemical Peels

Skin peels of varying types have been used for thousands of years. According to historical accounts, ancient civilizations used masks composed of sour milk or wine residues to improve their appearance. Although we no longer use sour milk or wine, Chemical peels offer a great way to dramatically improve the skin, reduce fine lines, age spots, scars and wrinkles and are a safe alternative to surgery.

There are 4 basic types of chemical peels (Lactic, Glycolic, Salicylic and TCA). The type of peel you’ll want will depend on what result we’re targeting for, you’re skin’s condition and your skin type.

Chemical peels use a solution that removes the top layer of skin (stratum cornea), revealing a fresh layer of skin and promoting collagen and elastin generation. They also have various penetration qualities and interactions with the deep dermis that influence a variety healing and corrective dermal activities that make your skin healthier and younger looking.

We have our exclusive O U Beauty Chemical Peel Information Chart to show you the different and wonderful things the different chemical peels can do, and it's always FREE.

Chemical peels can be performed, not only on your face, but over the entire body (body peel). You can also treat specific areas of your face, neck, decolletage, hands, legs or arms. Most peels have little to no down time.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

Chemical peels use solutions to clean away the dead skin cells of your skin, revealing new, fresher and smoother skin. Peels can range all the way from light "lunch hour" peels designed to provide subtle results with little to no recovery time to deep peels that provide dramatic results but that require a commitment and substantial down time, (i.e., Obagi Blue Peel & Cosmelan Peel). These peels also require a prepping period to get ready, but the results are amazing.

What Do Chemical Peels Treat?

Chemical peels can effectively improve a wide variety of skin conditions including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Shallow acne scars
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Age spots
  • Freckling

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion gives you vibrant, healthy looking skin and diminishes signs of aging by using a fine jet of aluminum oxide crystals to gently and painlessly exfoliate your skin while a special micro vacuum removes the crystals along with the dead skin cells.

The procedure is non-invasive and requires no recovery time, though some skin may remain red for up to 24 hours after the treatment. Microdermabrasion treatments remove dead skin and promote skin tissue, collagen and elastin production; giving you youthful looking skin as well as minimizing fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.

Great treatment for:

  • Cleansing Pores
  • Improving Texture and Skin Smoothness
  • Anti-Aging Cell Renewal
  • Fine Lines Wrinkles
  • Age Spots
  • Aids in the improvement of acneic scarring

Does It Hurt and is it safe?

Because Microdermabrasion is non-invasive it has rarely had any reports of complications in a clinic or reputable spa setting, and is one of the safest rejuvenation procedures available. Some people report redness or tight feeling in their skin after a treatment, but this is temporary.

Some people should not have Microdermabrasion. Let our caring staff know if you have any undiagnosed lesions, recent herpes outbreaks, warts, stage 3 or 4 acne, active rosacea, unstable diabetes or autoimmune disorders, so she can work within those perameters.

What Should I Expect from Microdermabrasion Treatment?

After the first treatment the skin will have a fresh, radiant glow. Fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots become greatly diminished, and many patients report their skin is softer, smoother and younger looking. Improvement continues throughout the treatment program (usually 3 treatments).

We also offer Diamond tip microdermabrasion, but we personally recommend the crystal system for most patients.

Microdermabrasion can usually be done weekly to bi-weekly depending on your skin type.
